El Pelicano Solar Company SpA (“Pelicano”) is a renewable energy producer that seeks to provide clean, sustainable energy responsibly. The company was founded in 2017 and owns a 110-megawatt (DC) solar plant located in the municipality of La Higuera (Coquimbo Region) near Vallenar (Atacama Region). The plant commenced commercial operations on November 17, 2017 and is expected to deliver 300 gigawatt hours per year of electricity to Metro de Santiago, Santiago’s underground railway system.
The company is owned by an affiliate of Actis, the leading investor in growth markets with over US$13 billion raised since inception. Actis has an established track record in the electricity sector with more than US$5 billion committed to more than 33 companies in over 25 countries across Asia, Africa and Latin America , with a total of 18GW of installed capacity and directly impacted 80 million consumers. Actis brings a wealth of experience in the growth markets’ energy sector with particular relevance for its continued successful operation, as well as proven regional capabilities, past performance and commitment to the Chilean energy sector.
In Latin America, Actis and its investee companies have owned over 2 GW of energy generation assets in operation and under construction, including assets in Chile, Mexico, Peru, Brazil, Guatemala, El Salvador, Panama, Bolivia, Costa Rica, Nicaragua and Honduras. Actis’s recent investments in Chile include Atlas Renewable Energy a Pan-Regional renewable energy company with approximately 750 MW of contracted assets in Chile, Uruguay, Brazil and a development pipeline in these countries plus Mexico and Aela Energia, a Chilean renewable energy company with 33 MW of wind in operation, and 265 MW under construction.
SolarPack is the asset manager of Pelicano. SolarPack has extensive experience in Chile, managing private PPAs in Chilean market since 2011 (Codelco and Collahuasi) and being the first developer with operations (2008), and first to build a PV utility scale plant (2012) in the country.

Those contributions have been focused on the following areas:
- Education: developing an educational program provided to more than 200 pupils of local schools in La Higuera and Vallenar on the benefits of solar energy
- Access to energy: delivering portable solar kits, which benefitted 109 families living in rural areas , and 60 solar panels (25 kW) to the municipality of La Higuera.
- Local employment: favouring the hiring of local labour and local service providers that benefit the regions III and IV
