Chile’s President, Michelle Bachelet, Inaugurates the El Pelicano Solar Plant
On January 11, 2018, Metro de Santiago celebrated completion of the El Pelicano solar plant with an event at the site. Chilean President, Michelle Bachelet, and Metro de Santiago President, Rodrigo Azocar attended the inauguration.
Metro de Santiago has become the first public transportation system in the world to run on renewable energy and expects to meet approximately 60% of its energy demand from solar and wind power. No other metro system has incorporated renewable energy in its consumption at this magnitude.
